X dreams about the performance until the moment the premiere begins. Then that dream comes to an end. The premiere itself is a strange liminal zone where the performance is no longer a dream, but not yet reality. One thing is certain: one never truly becomes the other. After the premiere, X can turn to new dreams. At least two things happen when we dream: we affirm the objective existence of external reality and, at the same time, deny it because we are dreaming. In dreams, external reality becomes merely a symbolic tool through which the dream can grow.

The rehearsal room is the hothouse of the dream. People gather there knowing that this dream will soon be replaced by another. An actor leaps from one role to another, a serial killer from one murder to the next, a long jumper from one sandpit to another – all in pursuit of a dream. Dreaming can be a transgression against objective reality.

Sometimes dreaming is simply self-deception.

Sometimes it is rebellion; sometimes it is complete detachment.

“We need dreamers,” thinks X between two dreams.

For the first time in the festival’s history, the Baltic Student Šķūnis (Barn) brings together emerging theatre-makers from across the region. This production is presented by students of the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy.
